1. Ceremony Pieces to Sweetheart Table

This repurposing technique is by far one of our BKD favorites - so naturally it's the first on the list! Repurposing your ceremony altar or arch pieces to your sweetheart or even head table creates the ultimate vignette! So many of your wedding reception photos will be at this table, such as your toasts and several people always come to grab photos with you during dinner and the party. This is the most useful way by far to reuse florals from ceremony to reception.

BKD Pro Tip: Ask your floral designer if your florals can be repurposed in this way to create your own design. Please note, they may have to make some adjustments of mechanics and details, including revising your quote, and the investment may change as well. As the flowers are being moved from one location to another after the ceremony, the florist will need to stay onsite after they have finished the initial set-up to relocate them. With this, there will normally be a labor/design fee for their time and to redesign the florals for another vignette or setting. It’s definitely worth the investment because, in this way, your florals get more life than just 30 minutes during the ceremony, now it’s the whole evening!

2. Ceremony Pieces to Cake Table, Fireplace, or Other

If you love your threads that you are wearing for your wedding, this is an excellent option! Having your ceremony florals moved to the cake table, will not only accentuate your attire from head to toe, but also will add some flair to that cake table and create amazing full length portraits. It instantly elevates the design, making a full vignette and even more inviting to have a garden in front of your cake! Having a fireplace or lounge at your wedding? How about moving the florals to adorn this beautiful architecture at your venue!

BKD Pro Tip: Not a working fireplace? Or wrong season, but want to add some romance and ambiance? Ask your floral designer to add some glass hurricanes & candles in with the florals!

3. Ceremony Aisle to Dessert Table

Ceremony aisle floral adornments are lovely, but can they have life past the ceremony? Of course they can, but it all depends on your wedding day weather, as these arrangements typically will not have a water source. Ask your florist to provide some small vases with water that they can easily be put into after the ceremony. Then, they can easily be placed on the cake or dessert table. Sweet little florals around sweet little treats!

BKD Pro Tip: If you are getting married outdoors during a hot summer month, green foliage and hardier flowers are strongly encouraged. Your floral designer can guide you with which ones are best for the climate and season.

4. Welcome Table to Main Bar

The welcome table is a great way to greet your guests at your wedding, but after that greeting period, it may be in an area that isn’t frequented after the ceremony or cocktail hour. We suggest giving them more life by moving them to your main bar for the event. It is a quick repurpose, and continues the florals being enjoyed by your guests all throughout the night!

5. Bouquets to Cake Table

What is sweeter than cake? Lush florals surrounding it, of course! After you have finished with portraits and romantic photos, have your wedding coordinator pop the bouquet(s) into the water vases they came in at delivery. Surround the bouquets on the tabletop and voila, instant beauty!

BKD Pro Tip: Remember to keep the vase that the bouquet came in at the top of the day. Keeping it fresh in water, it will be happier later, just in case you want to dry or preserve it.

Repurposing & Decorating at Home:

Loving the dried floral trend? Ask your florist to create boutonnieres or hair comb florals out of dried ingredients, that way they are easier to save as a keepsake after the wedding!

BKD Pro Tip: Prior to the wedding, head to your local craft store and purchase a shadowbox. Add the boutonniere, hair comb, wedding invitation, place cards and any other small detail into the box afterwards! Instant memories on your wall to cherish forever.

MEET BLAIRE

Hey there! I’m Blaire, owner and lead designer of Blaire Kimball Design, a Los Angeles floral design studio. Having been in the hospitality and event industry for over 10 years now, I truly believe the magic is in the attention to detail. A little about me: I have a passion for hosting, a first career in a hotel food & beverage department, then later created a vintage rental company that transitioned into a full service event planning & design company.

In the past six years, I added floral design, and found myself loving flowers more and more, and alas in April 2021, the brand BKD was officially born. As a floral designer, I’m very passionate about our projects, and having insight into many aspects of the industry sets our team apart from the rest. Designing flowers is my passion, and curating the best vessel collection for our clients is a constant chase, but my favorite moment is when the client walks into their wedding and sees the floral vision completed. Florals are my home, and I’m so excited to continue to flower people! If you’d like to see more of our designs, please follow us on Instagram: @blairekimball
