The Benefits of Hosting an Off-Season Wedding
Every summer and fall, wedding bells are sounding, love is in the air, and everyone’s mailbox is flooded with invitations from close family and friends. These warmer months are what we in the industry call, “wedding season” when most couples choose to get married. Nicer weather, longer daylight hours, and outdoor venues may seem enticing at first, but there are a few downsides to consider.
The number one problem that I see couples face when planning a summer or fall wedding is competition. Because so many others are choosing the same dates, you’ll find yourself competing for the best venues, caterers, photographers, and more. This can easily lead to frustration, and no one wants to feel stressed when planning their big day.
Instead of settling for second-best, try hosting an off-season wedding! While it’s not the favored option, any time between December and March is a wonderful time to say “I Do.” We’ve helped numerous couples plan their winter wedding and have seen the benefits first-hand.
Here are a few reasons why an off-season wedding might be the best option for you:
Less Competition
Nothing is more disappointing than reaching out to your preferred vendors and receiving the reply that they’re already booked. Hosting an off-season wedding helps to avoid this discouraging obstacle. Fewer couples will be getting married in the winter, so you will have a higher chance of securing the services you want.
Better Rates
During the off-season months, you have the opportunity to get better rates. Many venues offer discounted prices during the winter, which could help you snag your dream location at a fraction of the cost. This includes honeymoon accommodations as well!
Less Guest Conflict
Scheduling conflicts are more likely to happen in the summer and fall. Not only are people invited to several weddings, but they are also planning vacations, family reunions, and other personal trips. Hosting your wedding during the off-season increases your chances of having more guests RSVP “Yes” to your invitations.
Winter Wonderland Wedding
Winter nuptials could create the opportunity for a very romantic event if you plan it right. Consider an outdoor ceremony under a tent filled with greenery, linens, and candlelight. Use the holiday season to your advantage by incorporating a moodier palette and seasonal decor like garland, holly, and twinkle lights.
Off-season doesn’t equal a cold day with no attendees, especially in Los Angeles where we are blessed with relatively mild weather. Winter weddings in Southern California typically mean sacrificing a forecast of sunny and 75, to a mere sunny and 65. As long as you have a rain plan in place, the beach wedding you had in mind is not out of question (even in January!)
